Raspberry Pi 5 1 Audio Over Hdmi

The raspberry pi has up to three audio output modes.

Raspberry pi 5 1 audio over hdmi. First of all i wonder if kodi really gives out the pcm from my flac files bit perfect. You must set number of channels to 5 1 to use optical toslink. I just bought a raspberry pi 3 and installed openelec on it. You can switch between these modes at any time.

This may come down to the raspberry pi itself but having a hard time getting 5 1 audio streaming to work. I do not get any channels to work just dead silence. Is 5 1 suppose to work yet in the beta build. So far it works pretty well using the hdmi input but with minor limitations.

However the forum posts suggest that those players had to write their own interface or modify the alsa drivers to do it the stock alsa drivers seem. But you have to read the manual of your tv. I can get stereo to work no problem but no audio when i set it to 5 1. Optical only supports 2 channels.

I did a fresh install of raspbian stretch for desktop november 2018. My goal was to have an easy way to play my music using the dac of my oppo 105 but gapless. Some even just output 2 channel audio over toslink. Raspberry pi 3 1 point 4 years ago as far as i know it can do dts and dolby digital 5 1 passthroughs.

I then went and played the dts hd master audio sound check 7 1 lossless dweu test track which has a dts ma audio track that doesn t play perfectly through our 7 1 system the receiver shows multi channel pcm 5 1 and there is no audio in the center channel so not even 5 1 like displayed. If your hdmi monitor or tv has built in speakers the audio can be played over the hdmi cable but you can switch it to a set of headphones or other speakers plugged into the headphone jack. It can carry compressed multichannel audio that uses two channels for transport ac3 and dts. Or it could be that your settings have been set to 2 0 in which case you d just need to go into your settings to tell the pi3 to output 5 1.

No this is wrong. So it should be able to do it with 5 1 too i guess. But it cannot do dts hd master audio or dolby digital truehd because of some hardware limitations. Do i need a specific driver on the raspberry pi.

The pi 2 can decode 7 1 audio streams and send them to the tv as pcm.
