Raspberry Pi 5 1 Audio

I want to record audio for 5 1 surround sound.

Raspberry pi 5 1 audio. The raspberry pi has up to three audio output modes. Hdmi 1 and 2 if present and a headphone jack. I do not get any channels to work just dead silence. The following line indicates that raspberry pi has detected the usb sound card.

To play back audio initially i was using a 5 1 sound card and i fed the 6 channels to 6 loudspeakers with foobar. Later i used 4 squeezeboxes and 3 raspberry pis with squeezeplug installed since logitech decided to discontinue its squeezebox system. The constantly running pc was as noisy as a gas turbine. Do i need a specific driver on the raspberry pi.

This may come down to the raspberry pi itself but having a hard time getting 5 1 audio streaming to work. Media content is on two usb hdds plugged in to boxee. I can get stereo to work no problem but no audio when i set it to 5 1. My goal is to use 5 diy shotgun microphones with electret microphones being connected to a rpi that records and encodes to something like ac3 or at least 5 or 6 wav files i don t need the low frequencies in the 1 but it s nice to have.

If your hdmi monitor or tv has built in speakers the audio can be played over the hdmi cable but you can switch it to a set of headphones or other speakers plugged into the headphone jack. Is 5 1 suppose to work yet in the beta build. You can switch between these modes at any time. Help with raspberry pi 5 1 surround sound.
